"Petraeus, Quran Burning, Kristallnacht," A Comment
by mattduss
"On September 11, 2010, the extremist evangelical Dove World Church — whose pastor, Terry Jones, has written a book called “Islam Is Of The Devil” — plans to host “International Burn a Quran Day,” when it will burn Islam’s sacred text and encourage others across the world to do so as well. Church member Wayne Sapp has even posted an instructional video that explains how and why to burn the Quran.
But today the Wall Street Journal reports that Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, said the planned burning of Qurans “could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort“: Petraeus said the Taliban would exploit the demonstration for propaganda purposes, drumming up anger toward the U.S. and making it harder for allied troops to carry out their mission of protecting Afghan civilians. “It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort,” Gen. Petraeus said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here [in Afghanistan], but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community.”

"Kristallnacht- Is This Next?"
"In November 1938, in Germany there was an event known as Kristallnacht. Kristallnacht is a German word that literally means "night of glass". The name is appropriate, because Germans looted and destroyed Jewish businesses and synagogues. The event was prompted by the assassination of a German Ambassador in Paris by a Jewish teenager. The Kristallnacht pogrom resulted in at least 91 deaths, 30,000 people sent to concentration camps, near 900 synagouges destroyed, and approximately 7,000 businesses looted and destroyed."

A comment: So now, in the year 2010, we learn the limits of love and tolerance, in at least a segment of Christianity, specifically the 50 members of the Dove World Church in Gainesville, Florida, US of A. They intend to demonstrate their Saviour's mandate of "love thy neighbor as thyself" by publicly burning copies of the Quran, Islam's "bible." To do so tells us much of these people- their bigotry and hatred is all too apparent, as well as the hypocrisy of their professed "faith". How can it be that even now these vicious attitudes and beliefs still exist? How can followers of a "God of Love" be so filled with hatred and bigotry, in defiance of their own professed "faith"? Their desire to desecrate another religions holy book is a slap in the face of all truly civilized people, anywhere, and is to be condemned totally, without reservation. I was initially outraged to hear of this, and couldn't believe that Americans in 2010 could be so small minded and viciously prejudiced. I wanted to write about what hypocrites these were, what NAZI-wannabes they were, how revolting they truly are. I condemn them for this, and for being such hypocrites to the mandates of their own supposed faith. How can these people be considered our brethren? But most of all I pity them, too, for being so ignorantly fearful, so afraid of the world beyond their own Bible, that they can only cling to each other in desperation, and retreat into pathetic attempts at justifying their own beliefs with actions like this abomination. Such people truly need a saviour to come rescue them, from themselves... CP
